The „STIGMA“ Bachelor collection combines theoretical analysis and practical design to illuminate the deep-rooted negative effects of stigmatizationof mental illness. Using the approaches of critical and discursive design, the power of provocation is used to sensitize and stimulate reflection.
Each outfit in this collection is carefully thought out and assigned to a specific emotion that is often associated with stigmatization. The emotions of anger, fear, sadness, shame and self-hatred were chosen to represent the different facets of experiencing and stigmatizing mental illness. The targeted use of materials and colors symbolizes the respective emotion and enhances the expressiveness of the designs. Each emotion is symbolized by the application of specially created fabric manipulations to illustrate its intensity and complexity.
The collection relies on provocative and powerful representations to open up the discourse and stimulate reflection and criticism. Clothing becomes a medium that initiates discussions and fosters a deeper understanding of the challenges and suffering of those affected.
The aim of this collection is to create a platform by presenting the negative effects of stigmatization, which stimulates discussion and ultimately contributes to the de-stigmatization of mental illness.
